The software side: straightforward

Every remap we carry out starts by backing up the car's original ECU calibration before we touch anything. That means the software side of a Stage 2 remap is always fully reversible — the original file can be reloaded onto the ECU at any time, free of charge, under our lifetime software warranty.

Once reloaded, the ECU is running exactly the calibration it left the factory with. Any Stage 2-specific software adjustments — the boost, fuelling and torque changes made to take advantage of the fitted hardware — are gone.

The hardware side: it doesn't just disappear

This is the part that catches people out. Reversing the software has no effect on any hardware fitted as part of the Stage 2 tune — an upgraded intercooler, exhaust, induction kit or similar stays exactly where it is unless you have it physically removed and the original parts refitted separately.

Two separate things: the software revert restores the ECU calibration. Removing the hardware is a completely separate, physical job. Reversing a Stage 2 remap usually means doing one without necessarily doing the other.

What to actually expect afterwards

  • The ECU will be running its original, unmodified calibration
  • Any Stage 2 hardware fitted will remain in place unless removed separately
  • The ECU may need a short adaptation period to relearn certain values under the restored software
  • Driveability should feel very close to stock, though hardware left in place can occasionally have a small secondary effect
