Hybrid and electrified powertrains

As more performance cars adopt hybrid assistance — electric motors layered alongside a combustion engine — tuning is expanding beyond just the ECU map to include how that electric assistance is calibrated and blended with the combustion side. It’s a more complex picture than a traditional remap, and one we expect to grow significantly.

Tighter ECU security

Manufacturers have steadily increased encryption and security around their ECU software, partly to prevent unauthorised tuning and partly for cybersecurity reasons as cars become more connected. This makes remapping some newer platforms more involved than it used to be, requiring specialist tools and continually updated access methods.

Over-the-air updates changing the landscape

Some manufacturers now push software updates to vehicles remotely. This has implications for tuned cars — an OTA update can potentially overwrite a custom map — and it’s something the tuning industry is actively adapting processes around.

Data logging and more precise calibration

Modern tuning increasingly relies on detailed data logging — knuckle-deep sensor data rather than just a dyno pull — to fine-tune calibrations more precisely and catch issues that wouldn’t show up otherwise.
